The
System
Built on a multi-tier and multi-server architecture, the Paragon Mobile Platform has been designed to offer optimal reliability, scalability, extensibility, customization and security. The overall system consists of a monitor tier (or front end); the transaction and database layer, and finally the delivery tier.

Each tier operates stateless, which ultimately optimizes customization and scalability of the system. Messages are composed, and delivery vehicles and recipients selected in the monitor tier. Messages are sent using the transaction tier; and messages are delivered through the message delivery tier. The latter is based on extensions to industry standards. The message itself is assembled in real time combining message elements (as defined by message templates), which allows the flows (SMS, fax, email) to be customized for each message.
Reliability
Because business-critical communications are dispatched 24x7x365, reliability is a key requirement to the Paragon Mobile Platform™. Reliability is achieved by redundancy. A message's location within the system (i.e., on which server it resides) is explicitly tracked and stored in the database, enabling recovery of work in the event of a system failure. In this case, all outstanding activity on a failed server is automatically routed to a different redundant server, thereby ensuring integrity of the service and uninterrupted processing of the message.
Scalability
Each element of the process operates autonomously - the monitor layer, the transaction and database layer and the delivery tier. Therefore, scaling requirements reflect the demands being made on whichever tier is employed by the given process. Given the nature of one-to-many messaging, the delivery layer scales the fastest. Today, the Paragon Mobile Platform™ has the road-tested capacity to deliver thousands of SMS and fax messages per day, and millions of emails per day. The service scales to meet increased demand through the seamless addition of servers to any tier. Additionally, the system is optimized for time-sensitive, large-scale transmissions, employing an efficient media conversion cache and queuing strategy that maximizes technology and utilization.
Extensibility
Extensibility is achieved by a strong separation of the monitoring, database and message delivery tiers, coupled with carefully constructed software abstractions. The Web servers and incoming monitoring servers each present information to the user in different ways, yet make use of the exact same message delivery infrastructure. New user interfaces, such as for wireless hand-held devices, can be easily integrated. The software abstractions anticipate integration of alternate message delivery paradigms (such as the addition of WAP support).
Customization
Because of the multi-tier configuration, the front-end (monitoring layer) and the outbound messaging infrastructure are easily customizable for integration with partners and customers. A template-driven approach allows the Web pages, monitoring alert flows, fax layouts, and email messages to be customized for OEMs, customers and vertical applications.
Security
Security is extremely important and is addressed in several ways. All web transactions are conducted across SSL, while credit card information is obscured within the database. The servers reside behind an industry-leading firewall within our hosting facility for an additional level of security.
